Review of EqualLogic PS300E and Reldata IP Storage Gateway 9200 makes me really happy!
“, “To start off with, imagine 14 * 500GB of Storage space under Raid-10 configurations, giving up to 7TB of storable data is a mind boggling senario.
10 years back and we would just imagine the fact of Gigabyte HDD memory (Hollywood would say Jiga-bits in the movies like Quantum Leap) and we are now in the leap of Terabytes. That is alot of space.
Equate that to almost 1 Million Minutes of MP3 Songs being played ,that’s almost 6944days of non-stop music per TB or approximately 19 YEARS of listening to music! Thats PER TERABYTE!
Now with this baby, it’s capable of 7TB with 14 pcs 500GB SATA Hard disks striped down.
I read that once in April 2006 PC Pro Mag and the cost itself is Oh-My-God! £34,755+VAT
Specs: 3U chasis, 64bit RISC,1GB PC2700 Cache memory , 3 Gigabit Base-T / Mini-GBIC Fiber ports,dual 400W Hot Swap Power supply.
Reldata IP Storage was abit cheaper, but its SCSI. So U can load up to 6 Drives on it, and the cost: £15,300+VAT. Being SCSI, Its output os 80MB/s is not fanciful but having Dual XEON 3Ghz CPU,1GB PC2700 SDRAM ,ADAPTEC AIC-7902 Dual Channel makes me think again.
It has IDE ports, but nah! I rather stick my guns to NETAPP.
For something that is based oÂn Linux, I suppose I could do better.
I was thinking outloud the other day of making my own NAS, having got fed up with the NSLU2 and stuff like that, I could do with my own version.
Fancy 3Ghz Dual XEON with PCI Rising SATA2, Configurable to Raid 10, and well, I was looking forward to this 450TB Space project.Alot to give, but I will survive.
Watch this R&D Space.
Budget: £10,000 all in!
