Downgrade from Vista to XP…why?@!

Thursday 21 February 2008 @ 5:54 pm

Microsoft Corporation’s new operating system, Windows Longhorn aka Vista is far from just a Vista of goodies, as many have found out. Apparently, they have been in cahoots with Hewlett-Packard (HP) to package only VISTA DRIVERS for the new HP range of Notebooks and Tablet PCs. Forget XP Embedded or Home as most of the drivers don’t work for these motherboards. Poor users, as that means only one thing, poor performance as the need for more memory and faster hard drives will make the system more sluggish.

Basic reasons of why choose XP over Vista?
1) Lower need of Memory
2) Quicker loading
3) Easy driver compatibilities
4) Software compatibilities (Accountants please note)
5) Lower cost

XP requires just basic 32MB RAM and 250MB Hard disk space compared to Vista needing 1GB Ram and 10GB Hard disk space.

Even with XP Home at Vista’s requirements will do excellent in performance as the OS in itself loads up about 200MB of memory in it’s static kernels (kernel32.dll , Explorer, Firefox, Yahoo Messenger, Skype) loaded up.
That is far less than Vista’s 800MB memory (RAM) loaded up in it’s kernel with the need to have a swap file. Heck even at 1 Gigabyte worth of RAM, you don’t need to load any swap file or PageFile.SYS as you won’t need to unless you start doing animations or photo editing (Photoshop,Adobe Illustrator etc) or Video Extraction which is sluggish because it takes ALOT OF PROCESSING POWER (CPU) as to the RAM. Also, the hard disk needs to be fast to read/write/rewrite data to the banks.

Windows XP loads up in less than 45 seconds compared to 3 minutes of Vista Basic as it needs to check if you installed any pirated junk and pornography or pedophile related materials so they can report you.

Windows XP too can be tuned up to run at maximum capacity of 20 simultaneous TCP/IP Connections per stack compared to the rigid 5 connections per application. So much for Multi tasking!

Drivers are not so compatible with Longhorn / Vista as most are written for Win32 aka Windows 2000/2003/ME/XP and they are backward compatible as to Vista which is static for them. Mainly it’s because Vista is written to the core so that it works with Apple MacBook. Yes.. Vista runs Mac! XP Drivers don’t work with Vista and at this edition, ALi, LinkSYS, Asus and some manufacturers older boards and API don’t cal for Vista and HP is evil enough to write only drivers for Vista and not XP as they are too lazy! Dell is as evil too as their proprietary hardware won’t work on Vista as they try to clear off their old stock of Motherboards. This information is up to date for their Desktops and Mini Servers too. A collegue from DELL MALAYSIA which is round the corner confirms this as the compatibility issues makes Vista a problem child.

Software wise, I was told that QUICKBOOKS and many others are not compatible YET on Vista due to the way the network issues are set up. Security tokens don’t work with even SUN Servers. So much for inter-operatability.

Costs? XP Home Stickers can be bought as low as USD25 as they are over the 6mths tie in with the OEM Manufacturer. Vista..is far more. I can’t disclose due to the licensing rules.

For me, if all fails, I just stick to CentOS or Debian Linux. It will sure work at base configs! And it’s free@! Anyway, Microsoft based their kernels on Linux..so what works on XP or Vista MUST work with Linux. Right? Even Apple MacBook Air works on Linux.

Sorry! This is me.. The Geek!
Any updates will be flashed at http://www.azrin.net/?s=helium
Do look out for the privacy issues too@!

Glitter today, Gone later in the day

Wednesday 16 January 2008 @ 12:38 pm

Seems that I have not been getting enough traffic to warrant the need of me having Glitterati and even with Tim’s in-depth explaination, seems I can’t draw enough traffic to make me have some glitter to the party.

Meaning, because some of my sites are not performing just as required, they does not mean it’s not worth a view. And it’s quite true, since alot of my domains point to one site, like WarongKopi.Com and KedaiSingapura.COM but it’s not in Nuffnang marketplace anyway.

I will separate my entities out from Nuffnang anyway, since there would be a conflict of interest actually since Kedai dot Everything offers a Marketplace, Banner Advertising and advertorials which are competing their business in essence.

So, like I said, this Glitterati business is affecting some people’s business but like I said, it depends on the blogger itself, if earning 20% less is better off than earning more in bet-spread terms, by offering more value for money to both the advertisers and readers alike.

If you are wondering where I have them installed, this is the Long List:

Ads, Clicks and Rewards @ Kedai dot TV

Kedai dot US
Kedai dot SG
Kedai dot Info
Marketplace @ the Kedai.TV
BBS Community Websites
Discuss it @ Kedai.TV
Picture Perfect @ Kedai dot TV
Questions? FAQ it!
Network Support for Kedai.TV

Blogs I manage:
What’s the story with Tia Baby
Singaporean in Europe
Walk with me in Europe
Geekz Corner (this one)
SEO Engineering 101
Driving Me Nuts…
SEO that Blogspot
RA Tree Intra Holdings Blog

Chef, Photographer wanna be

That is a long list…but it’s actually longer… and it would be a conflict actually if I install more.
So now, I leave that to it…and stick to chippsmore cookies… and them ads.

If you want more info, look in my Bloglog community on the side OK?

Quality before Quantity

Sunday 13 January 2008 @ 6:57 am

I got an email this morning from Loud Launch which says they had some technical and manual issues validating opportunity payments, ie my Blog Payment for the month of November to the Christmas rush, which they were supposed to pay before the new year. So, OK, I got compensated for it, about $172 for the delay in payments.

Then then anti-climax of the sexual sort, the bummer. It’s like you vigorously boning it with the peak in sight and then you remembered that you forgot the rubber sort. The Quantity issue. Of the marketplace, there will be at least 10% of the bloggers who will be kicked out. Or Banned, or given the time out because they took too many opportunities in one day. Google Page Nuke is not helping either with payouts either. Most of everyone doing Paid Posts have had their Page Rank down to NOTHING. I had all except one which stands at a SINGLE VALUE OF ONE. Which don’t deserve it at all because I write crap on it. So how many are we allowed to in a day per blog?

It’s like you trying to give your partner multiple orgasms but not knowing the limit before she gets sore or before you run out of juice and from being a pleasure turning it into an ordeal. With both walking like a huge ball in between the legs for the next few days. Get the drift?

It’s also just like when you trying to figure out how to ‘cheat’ the system by maneuvering your ads into better paying ones like Glitterati and at the same time giving great value for money by placing Adbrite, Text Link Ads and Google Adsense to it. And knowing that the advertisers now will kill any ad spots if they smell any competitor like a paid post or something hurts bad too.

Well, I did promise some graphics and my friend Sya has been kind to forward something from Kak Elle about some graphics which you should read…

It concerns women and you men too… That means going for a mamogram

image005.jpg

image004.jpg

Had enuff??

image006.jpg

And in no particular order actually.

image007.jpg

And after all these years.. friends are always there to remind you of something….

Best regards

4234.jpg

LOL ROTF…

PS : If you got issues with Nuffnang’s Glitterati and any other questions, please pop it here… Tim reads it often.. (seems he has been sneaking up on me and stalking me for my Espresso Frapracino Venti Triple Shot)

Wordpress Update…. Don’t forget to do this!

Thursday 10 January 2008 @ 6:03 pm

If you upgraded from 2.1 to 2.3.2, please don’t forget this database update:

You will need to add a new table called POST2CAT into your database.

Depending on your setup, it maybe defaulted to WP_ prefix
so make sure you add this to your SQL

You may need to access your MYSQL DB controls thru your control panel (CPANEL / WHM / PLESK / HELM ) and go thru phpmyadmin to access them.
Check your CONFIG.PHP for your database settings.

Then …easily update yr blog using the WP-AUTO-UPGRADE script. Yeah..the post ID is satanic abit.

Goodbye NuffNaggers

Wednesday 19 December 2007 @ 5:16 am

Well blow me down. I was so happy today being Hari Raya Haji (I follow what MEKAH for Hajj) and well, I had a nasty email from YAT about me having both Nuffnang ads.

Hi Azrin,

Upon checking your blogs and account, we have found out that you are serving Nuffnang Ads from both Malaysia and Singapore, meaning you have accounts in both countries. AT LEAST 5 out of 8 blogs registered under your account have ads from both countries. Namely:

http://marlindaradzi.com/
http://azrin.net/
http://melayu.eu/
http://www.azrin.info/
http://www.athira.net/

I’m sorry but we have to tell you that our system do not allow Nuffnang Ads from both countries on the same blog. After all, both countries’ ads are marketed differently, and there will be payment issues on our side. So you can ONLY choose ads either from Malaysia or Singapore. If you want to keep any of the URLs in Malaysia account please delete the URLs in the Singapore account and vice versa.

{Some Contents deleted on request of Ming}

Have a nice day.
Regards,

Yat Guo Jian
Nuffnang Sdn Bhd
http://www.nuffnang.com.my

Shiver me timbers, just as I was getting my BREAK FAST and it’s 10am in the morning. I don’t recall that you CANNOT do so, only to state on the TERMS AND CONDITIONS that you CANNOT show the same ad of the Advertiser in the same page from another network. That is it. Discriminatory? I don’t know. I will not go down the Hindraf way, and well, if you had objections, WHY DID YOU NOT STOP ME 6 MONTHS AGO??!! Honestly, I am feeling lucky now, that my lawyers said that they are DISCRIMINATING AND THREATENING.They forget that their Singapore Office is the place for us to sue them,as most of the sugar is there, and it’s SO EASY to knock SG companies down. Take Criminal Corporate Law pathway, because the CID and CCD will flock that company like a pack of Hyenas for this act of misconduct.

Oh just as well,it’s been fun. It’s been great.I have not received my cheques yet and I know I will never be. So, Goodbye Singapore Nuffnangers, I have to leave. As proud I am as a Singaporean, I will let the current spur run thru, and I think I should remove all of the Nuffnang Ads, Malaysia or Singapore as I know I will NOT GET PAID. At least Google Adsense and Adbrite pays me more often and and with greater payout. Just as I thought I could be their featured MALAY BLOGGER instead of the full runs of Chinese Bloggers like 5xMom and others, with a great sense of earnings.Heck, I don’t receive RM950 per check or so in a month from Nuffnang, but I sure draw more than that.I still have my affiliate programs and other ad units, which makes me think, that I should concentrate on my Kedai-dot-TV which pays for your participation and views and visits and reviews. Best of all, it will be in Pounds Sterling instead of US$. More MOOLAH, but I will not enter the Nuffnang Line of Business…too much dirty.

And so,I have to wave goodbye to my fellow comrades in Singapore and Nuffnang. I already took out Advertlets for the problems with my domain, and so…this means more work on my side to decode all what amendments I have done for them.

So, Thanks for nothing. Their boss said nothing but the tycos wanted to show me who is their gangster, the Real Ah-Long Bukit Beruntung….And the painful lesson to learn that you cannot be a Singaporean and living in Malaysia to earn a decent living which is not enough to pay for my Penang Bridge Toll. Heck even a decent cuppa teh tarik and Roti Prata is not enough with them.

Enough Said?

Please Read Tim’s Reply…

The Toll is Off!

Monday 30 April 2007 @ 8:50 am

If you haven’t heard the news, the Malaysian Twenty Ringgit Per Entry Toll aka CarTag is OFF!
So don’t worry that you have to pay RM20 for the Exit Toll coming out of Malaysia thru Tuas, Johor Baru or even the Thai Borders.

There is also NO THREE QUARTER TANK RULE for MALAYSIA. Meaning, if you enter Malaysia, feel free to be empty on the tank from Thailand but the 3/4 Tank Rule applies for ALL SINGAPORE REGISTERED CARS (S-Plates) Coming thru the Singapore Border. This is the SINGAPORE ICA Law! $500 Compound Fine awaits if you fail.

Some things to note:

G-Plate Vans,Pickups and Lorries are required to have a registration in MALAYSIA, with a local Johor Entity Company to register that vehicle. The Driver MUST HOLD A VALID GDL (Goods-Vehicle Driving Licence) which they have to sit and pass a THEORY TEST.

They must also hold a VALID MALAYSIA CDL (Competent Driving Licence) prior to applying for a GDL Theory Test. To apply for a GDL,they must hold a VALID MALAYSIAN ADDRESS and an EMPLOYMENT or LONG TERM VISIT PASS. The Malaysian Company have to apply for that. The Annual fee (LEVY) ranges from RM1200 to RM3500 for a Business / Management Pass (which is easier to get). A business / management staff pass (aka Pass Pengajian Taraf Tinggi ..similar to Highly Skilled Migration Program for degree holders) can bypass the RM3500 fee by paying the income tax to that rate or the Zakat Harta/Pendapatan for Muslims. In lieu of that, you can forget the Singapore IRAS Tax return as you have paid the Malaysian Tax. To apply for a CDL, you need to bring the relevant documents, such as a bank statement and if you married a Malaysian, your marriage certificate and your spouces’ ID.

The GDL must be applied only from Johor Baru JPJ Office in Taman Daya. If you hate the hassle, use an agent. Fees range from RM300 onwards. You need to pass a medical test etc etc. Standard stuff the LTA require for Vocational Drivers.

Singapore Registered Y and X Plates are NOT ALLOWED TO ENTER MALAYSIA.

RED PLATES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DRIVE IN MALAYSIA IF YOU HAVE INSUFFICIENT INSURANCE COVERAGE. Off Peak Vehicles are read as vehicle that are illegal on the road from 0700-1900hrs Monday - Friday except Public Holidays etc. As how you are in Singapore, your Insurance is NULL AND VOID if you drive in Malaysia or Singapore during these times WITHOUT A COUPON!! I have seen cases of Drivers held up to court up north for driving without registration of vehicle, tax and insurance for driving during daylight hours. Your Insurance is ONLY THIRD PARTY IN MALAYSIA even when you have sufficient Comprehensive cover in Singapore. It only covers up to 50KM within Johor Baru, and THIRD PARTY RISKS there after.

So don’t be a gung ho and think the Malaysian police don’t know about this. They just close an eyelid as they don’t think they can ‘makan’ you with a fine. If the JPJ stops you, especially the Federal JPJ Patrol who roam about the country, you will be detained immediately. It’s a RM500 on the spot fine, or you get to eat Nasi Ikan Kering in the lockup with only your underwear. They are just being tolerant of us so we can spend more dollars in Malaysia.

Also, do note that Singapore Cars are to use White or Black front plates and Yellow Rear Plates without any fanciful plates. If the JPJ stops you for it, it’s another RM150 on the spot, and they break your plates off, and force you to tow your car to the workshop and get a replacement there and then. Same thing with TINTED GLASS!! They will tear it off, bit here and there to ‘fine’ you instead, so you have to fork out about $500 to replace the tinting.

And …get a AAM Coverage or so, just in case if you break down, as it’s a real costly misadventure in Malaysia if that happens, at least RM500 for a quick tow! An AA Membership in Malaysia cost about RM150 or so. Save you alot of hassle.

I’ll put up more info should U guys need it!Happy travelling!

To heck with it!

Wednesday 7 March 2007 @ 5:07 pm

I know I don’t get that much traffic and I get personal at times. But then, THIS IS MY PERSONAL WEB LOG, and I don’t give a piss about what others think. It’s My Diary, what I think , do or even plan. Just like a filofax but personal and public. It’s just like anyone stopping by a house on the roadside, it’s THAT PERSONS’ HOME. You don’t go about telling him how to live his life, or what color to paint, and where he can park his car. It’s his personal space.

So to think I have to sell my own creature comfort just to accomodate some people, and that I have some ads I want to promote they don’t like, I say to em, F**K IT! Darn lucky I was not like some Ah-Lian middle aged mom who wanna get her time famous and cuss and swear in any language she likes. I don’t say P*K*-M** or cuss your mom. It’s just not right. There is a level of decency here , how crude I am or rude I was in the Army.

Yes, I was looking thru my written log of my life in the Army. We swear is a Standard Operating Procedure.A way of life when we don our uniform, but not when we took it off and wear a PT-KIT or Half-U. We are human then, Men with Brains. A creed over others. Civilian Discipline kicks in, and even with our Lt-Col of a useless CO, we become friends. Human nature. Yes our boss yet a friend when not in Green. Otherwise, he is our Enermy.

So coming back to the point of allowing advertiser to twist my tongue and allow myself to be bent that way, I saw HELL NO. You ain’t paying me enough to contravene my basic Human Rights and I am darn contemplating on taking a class Criminal Action for being Biased and Discriminant. Take against the company that pays your paycheck and you as a person. It’s a human thing. Irregardless of how I write down here, my ads has nothing to do with you. MY PERSONAL SPACE. You are just paying me for 200 words TOPS! That’s a 300px by 15 collumn advertising.

You don’t go to a paper placing a classified ad and tell them after it is published that you don’t want to be listed next to the obituaries. You tell them BEFORE placing it. Same as how I place my ads. I place my Google and Adbrite Contextual ads on the side of my post so it comes as a premium, and when you give me the full attention to reply to my ramblings, you see the more targetted ever colorful, dermographically specified advert relating to that kind of service, which pays me more. It’s a relevancy thingy.

Just like if any O’ Advertiser wanna tell Wal-Mart that they don’t want their Snickers to be placed next to the Marlboro Ads near the Tills. That is a PREMIUM SPACE for product awareness, and just like any o shopper, they will see that product for a good 30-60 secs before paying for their shopping, and most likely to buy it!

Same concept applies in any Textual Advertising. The prime spot is my post itself. A good mention plus any other images. But if you think the advertiser beside you (google) is a competitor, I can just shut it off, if you SPECIFY BEFORE HAND! Not by any other cranny nookie!~

I spend most of my time tweaking the PHP codes and PHP takes alot of effort. I want the best for any advertiser so their SEO ranks go up and along with their backlink, I am taking a cruise.

So, it’s a matter of trying to kill that walking salesman BEFORE ASKING HIM TO PROMOTE YOUR PRODUCT. How silly is that? I had over 300 odd posts within the last 90 days and NO ONE COMPLAINED. I even got praises and recommendations by them as a TESTIMONIAL to their great job (and I get a good link back too thus the PR 7 on a site) so events says otherwise.

Yeah, so I am a small fry, and I am full of ideas. To hell what you think.I thought so.

Just wondering, will you take off your GOOGLE and ADBRITE ADS if PPP says so?Will you still be a postie?
