As drunk as an Irish

Wednesday 23 April 2008 @ 5:22 pm

Hands up. I am a real tosser and kind of a wanker at times especially when I am with my Irish buddies. Point Blank. I must always carry 300 Euros with me so I can pay my on the spot fine of about 200 Punts (Irish Pounds) when it’s the guys night out, without anything to tell or remember, especially down the river in Dublin, Eireann. In itself, Ireland is a country full of culture and florishing with so much to do and so little time to explore if you take the time to do so.

Take Galway for instance. Notorious for the lousy hospital but it’s a place where they have their best college of medicine in the Republic.Literally, at times, the Atlantic Winds are merciless towards the residents of Galway, battering them with all sorts tests of life, with winds and gusts of over 80 miles an hour and sub freezing winters, yet Galway is so rich in it’s own culture, seafood, luxury scenic views and of course, of the best places to have a pint of stout. Heck, even the bootleg whisky is far better than their cousins, the Scottish as I am always drunk as an Irish Lad.

Come to think of it, since I am still sober, I should have removed the Nuffnang Ads totally since they are not paying me as promised.

Webhost galore

Tuesday 25 March 2008 @ 5:27 pm

I was reading a post by kaushal about his host blacked out yesterday..and poor him, I know how it felt when Powweb had their NETAPP crashed again (is it typical?) a few months back. So he suggested Host Monster, HostGator and Yahoo, but I’m going to reserve my comment about Yahoo for now. So I continued reading about best web hosting post.

That I cannot post a reply to his blog, so here is my comment brother:

Host gator is good at times…but once U use up alot of resource like when there are more than 20 users at a go on Wordpress, it will kicks a huge fuss and ask you to move to a dedicated.

Try Powweb too.. had so much fun with them, esp with the 1.5TB (terabytes) space and 15TB Bandwidth… they are load balanced, so it won’t be much an issue.

Best regards

azrin @ www.azrin.net

You see, many of the hosts don’t use a load balancer, unless they are huge companies, like me, with DDOS and Cisco Load Balancers as they cost about $500 a month each. So, if you don’t mind shared host, you stick with Powweb.Otherwise, you can go for dedicated, and Hostgator does not own their own equipment anyway, it’s leased from ThePlanet.

Anyway, that is from me, enough of Hosting comments.

Updating without an update

Wednesday 9 January 2008 @ 7:43 pm

Well, I had the issue with having to upgrade the files of my blog manually. I placed a wishlist with the 2.5 Dev Team in the wish list to have it auto update as Fantastico is a bit slow in updating it’s files and stuff like that and by the time they updated, you have been hacked.

So, what to do unless you want to upload everything? They have this little plugin that does auto updates. It is a small set of files and if you have many blogs like me (about 72 as of today), updating them manually is a hassle. This plugin auto updates it all for you, your files and stuff like that and backs everything up.

Oh yeah. Pre 2.0 to 2.3.x needs a new database-table called Post2Cat so it does the auto updates , which is somewhat an addon to the Tags and auto save function. You will need to add that table in manually thru your SQL.

Anyway, it’s a cool feature to have in your back end, saves alot of hassle of over writing files and stuff like that. Making sure you don’t accidentally delete the wrong one is a nightmare. So, use it..it’s plain simple.

Chao! (and let me know how U find it)
PS: download the plugin, decompress and upload everything to your wp-content/plugins folder. The need of an FTP software (or even in Explorer) is needed.

Incoming!Nuffnang Ads to your rescue…….

Tuesday 18 December 2007 @ 7:13 pm

Well, to top the Christmas list off, I got a nasty surprise when I saw a huge BUMP on my advertising placements for the Christmas run. On top of that, it’s the traffic that I was quite worried about actually when the traffic flow was getting too much. Well, within the last 3 hours, Adbrite reported I received over 781 UNIQUE VISITS in TWO HOURS! I thought someone sabotaged me by placing my site on ADBUX which is a Paid Per Click site (pays me and you ONE CENT EACH TIME) to get even with me. Yes, being Worst Blogger of the Year 2007 (NON-US) is BAD for my business. Kicked out of PAY-PP (and the PAP is getting even with me) and some advertisers left my business alliance, it bore a dent on my $7000 a month ‘jajan’ (candy money).

So back to the point,Thanks to Nuffnang, I received my daily dose of advertising. Yes, I had to decline the last run, which was Guinness Stout (which I have nothing against the Irish), of which I had to stand by Drive and Don’t Drink Campaign. I would love to run theirs even on PPC or eCPM basis because I have to promote my fellow comrades in Dublin,Eireann. That is just being Irish. Anyway, with 700 Visits an hour will surely put me on tier 50 on the Nuffnang Analytics. What is this Nuffnang Analytics? Every average visitor bring a point. Each Tier had it’s own ‘Quota’.

Tier One is the LOWEST. You get NOTHING! Some of you have even tried clicking on your ads,but get paid NOTHING right? That is because in the contract, you must have 10 visitors a day excluding yours. They planted a cookie inside it. So they know.

Then with traffic between 10-50, you get on Tier Two, which lands you BAND ONE ads! You will get about RM1.20 for your Static Ads. Get 50-100, you land on Tier Three, Band TWO, which is S$2.88 or RM3.58.

So what is this bullshit hype all about CPM,CPC and EPC? Well, Each advertising has a value. They agree with the Advertiser how much they willing to pay for each CLICK or per 100 views of their ad, commonly known as CPC (Cost per Centi). That will work out to Conversion Per Mille (CPM) which means how many clicks per thousand impressions. They also work out the EARNINGS PER CLICK by that method.

So, if you show your ads to 100 visitors, and out of that, one person click, means you convert 1% of your views. Your CPM will be 0.01% at most, by looking at how many from that 1% will go deeper, and click inside the advertisers’ site. A conversion means a sale or sign-up. Out of that, a click can get the affiliate or referrer a commission, which works out the EPC or Earnings Per Click.

Don’t care what, Nuffnang took a cut. They impose a normally 25% fee. Then there are are setup fees and other stuff. And so that comes to your Pay Check.

So what do you do to get that kind of advertising tier of $90 per advertising spot?? Well, drive more people in. Quality targeted traffic. You need a good spread of Singapore and a high load of Malaysian Traffic. Not just from Chinese but the Malays, Indians and visitors abroad like the US, UK, Europe and Australia. Your keywords must be absolutely great. Perfection is a must. And should you use CHINESE, get a standard English translation too as a vast majority who read are Romanised. The traffic will then come in also from Search Engines and Keywords. Look into your KEYWORD ANALYTICS of your blog.

Should I split my blog up? Yes, if the theme and focus differ from each other. One for your cat, one for your fish, one for your work, girlfriend, your concubine and scandals alike and what more can I say.Heck, write one about your Mother and Father and Grandparents too should you prefer. You need a GLOBAL traffic conversion whom will hop from one link to the next and that counts ALOT.

So, what is the total score?

Per Visitor, it will give you at least the following:
Adsense : 0.001 US CENT (based on 10c CPM)
Adbrite : 0.1 US CENT (Based on the CPC,CPM and FULL PAGE ADS)
Bidvertiser: 0.0001 US CENT (A long short)

Auction Ads: 0.01 US CENT
TextLinkAds: 0.01 US CENT (or $10 a mth)
ShoppingAds: 0.001US CENT

Advertlet : 0.01 SG cent
NUFFNANG: 0.15 MY SEN + 20 Sen per click.

So, if one day you draw in 1000 visits and 5000 clicks or page views (because people want to read the comment and replies) effectively you stand to earn about RM12 which pays for your hosting, domain name and even a Teh Tarik and Roti Canai at the local Mamak Store. Heck, it even pays for your motobike’s petrol to get to work.

Blog Roll People. Mention them, Trackback, and Visit them often. That will make you earn a decent earning. 20c is still 20 sen. As they say, it’s TABUNG AYAM, sikit sikit makin membukit. And if you feel your friends’ site is interesting, help them by clicking and visiting their sponsor. Don’t just click and close. Click deeper so it’s not fraudulent. Be HAPPY, because it’s 99sen for a 45mins call, thanks to Digi. No longer Orang Kuning but Gino’s Orang Oren!

As the lyrics in Aflin Shauki’s song Ah Long Bukit Beruntung… Kami Hanya Mahu Tolong. Tidak Perlu Borang J atau EA, Tidak perlu 6 bulan penyata gaji….oooooh Kami Ah Long Kasi Lu Untung!

Love it? Hate It.. Nag It.
Comments appreciated.

Wierd?

Wednesday 14 March 2007 @ 10:28 am

Nah, I just call it plain disbelief when I popped by a fellow Postie’s site called Castle Nottingham in which it has nothing to do with Robin Hood and the Price of Thieves (wish we still have em in UK) but I pity that he had nothing to do in May cos his PA Faire was cancelled.

So, to you, happy hunting, and if you are not as nuts as me, can carry on do some spirit hunting, just make sure you know the line of sanity and real life among the line of IF THAT THING IS THERE and BEING ABLE TO BE SEEN BY OTHERS.

Just a note to any ghost busters wanna be out there, it can piss you off or you can piss in yr pants if you are not careful.
Exorcism is no playing matter.
