Nuffnang : The Aftermath

Wednesday 19 December 2007 @ 11:27 am

Well, Ming caught me by surprise, by ringing me at about 5.10pm just now to apologise about what Yat stated and the tone of voice it was worded in. It was so for called ‘unauthorised email by ‘ his prodigy which the company did not censure. Honestly, if the mail was sent to me at other time, I would not be that annoyed and took in good stride, but on Hari Raya Haji morning, it’s like giving someone a bad mood on the eye of Chinese New Year. The Fish.

Anyway, to argue that email are privileged, it only covers company based in US and EU, as that covers Data Protection act and Electronics Communications Act in Singapore (IDA VAN Class B Laws) and Multimedia Communications Act in Malaysia does not censure the privileged information disseminated by Email unless it is INTERNAL. Anyway, leave that to the lawyers.

And so, the autonomy of Nuffnang and their Company actions means to me, I can’t deal with both, just one, even as an advertiser. They just seem to forget that the Internet is not just based on the dermographics. Even a user with SingTEL IP does not mean he is in Singapore, but maybe a call center in Melaka or even Philippines. I just don’t want to get into the mood of foul mouthed self, because it’s festive season of sacrifice and alot SABR (Sabar) meaning Patience with the tests.

As it is, unfortunately, I have to make my decision, and regretfully, I don’t just feel it is right for me to choose sides, because this is no war between two countries or so, as I stated, I am a Citizen with Residence in Malaysia. It is same as Malaysian working in Singapore, that they have Singapore Address but citizen of Malaysia. So, I just don’t seem to understand the concept of Singapore Advertisers. That they are told to GO GLOBAL by Mr Lee (jr PM & Sr MM) and even Dr Mahathir and Pak Lah wants us all to do so. Excuses aside, I don’t feel it is right and well…I leave it as it is.

I am now letting them choose to ban me from whichever marketplace. Maybe it’s because it’s bad business to be associated with the World’s Worst NON-US Blogger of the Year 2007, or it’s because I am a Malay. I just at times, feel that this is just the drawing point.

So, let everyone have their say…because if the money is not good enough, the army of ants will find somewhere else, and bloggers are the one who pays their bills.

Take care.

Salam Aidil Adha
Maaf Zahir Batin

Happy Holidays!

Goodbye NuffNaggers

Wednesday 19 December 2007 @ 5:16 am

Well blow me down. I was so happy today being Hari Raya Haji (I follow what MEKAH for Hajj) and well, I had a nasty email from YAT about me having both Nuffnang ads.

Hi Azrin,

Upon checking your blogs and account, we have found out that you are serving Nuffnang Ads from both Malaysia and Singapore, meaning you have accounts in both countries. AT LEAST 5 out of 8 blogs registered under your account have ads from both countries. Namely:

http://marlindaradzi.com/
http://azrin.net/
http://melayu.eu/
http://www.azrin.info/
http://www.athira.net/

I’m sorry but we have to tell you that our system do not allow Nuffnang Ads from both countries on the same blog. After all, both countries’ ads are marketed differently, and there will be payment issues on our side. So you can ONLY choose ads either from Malaysia or Singapore. If you want to keep any of the URLs in Malaysia account please delete the URLs in the Singapore account and vice versa.

{Some Contents deleted on request of Ming}

Have a nice day.
Regards,

Yat Guo Jian
Nuffnang Sdn Bhd
http://www.nuffnang.com.my

Shiver me timbers, just as I was getting my BREAK FAST and it’s 10am in the morning. I don’t recall that you CANNOT do so, only to state on the TERMS AND CONDITIONS that you CANNOT show the same ad of the Advertiser in the same page from another network. That is it. Discriminatory? I don’t know. I will not go down the Hindraf way, and well, if you had objections, WHY DID YOU NOT STOP ME 6 MONTHS AGO??!! Honestly, I am feeling lucky now, that my lawyers said that they are DISCRIMINATING AND THREATENING.They forget that their Singapore Office is the place for us to sue them,as most of the sugar is there, and it’s SO EASY to knock SG companies down. Take Criminal Corporate Law pathway, because the CID and CCD will flock that company like a pack of Hyenas for this act of misconduct.

Oh just as well,it’s been fun. It’s been great.I have not received my cheques yet and I know I will never be. So, Goodbye Singapore Nuffnangers, I have to leave. As proud I am as a Singaporean, I will let the current spur run thru, and I think I should remove all of the Nuffnang Ads, Malaysia or Singapore as I know I will NOT GET PAID. At least Google Adsense and Adbrite pays me more often and and with greater payout. Just as I thought I could be their featured MALAY BLOGGER instead of the full runs of Chinese Bloggers like 5xMom and others, with a great sense of earnings.Heck, I don’t receive RM950 per check or so in a month from Nuffnang, but I sure draw more than that.I still have my affiliate programs and other ad units, which makes me think, that I should concentrate on my Kedai-dot-TV which pays for your participation and views and visits and reviews. Best of all, it will be in Pounds Sterling instead of US$. More MOOLAH, but I will not enter the Nuffnang Line of Business…too much dirty.

And so,I have to wave goodbye to my fellow comrades in Singapore and Nuffnang. I already took out Advertlets for the problems with my domain, and so…this means more work on my side to decode all what amendments I have done for them.

So, Thanks for nothing. Their boss said nothing but the tycos wanted to show me who is their gangster, the Real Ah-Long Bukit Beruntung….And the painful lesson to learn that you cannot be a Singaporean and living in Malaysia to earn a decent living which is not enough to pay for my Penang Bridge Toll. Heck even a decent cuppa teh tarik and Roti Prata is not enough with them.

Enough Said?

Incoming!Nuffnang Ads to your rescue…….

Tuesday 18 December 2007 @ 7:13 pm

Well, to top the Christmas list off, I got a nasty surprise when I saw a huge BUMP on my advertising placements for the Christmas run. On top of that, it’s the traffic that I was quite worried about actually when the traffic flow was getting too much. Well, within the last 3 hours, Adbrite reported I received over 781 UNIQUE VISITS in TWO HOURS! I thought someone sabotaged me by placing my site on ADBUX which is a Paid Per Click site (pays me and you ONE CENT EACH TIME) to get even with me. Yes, being Worst Blogger of the Year 2007 (NON-US) is BAD for my business. Kicked out of PAY-PP (and the PAP is getting even with me) and some advertisers left my business alliance, it bore a dent on my $7000 a month ‘jajan’ (candy money).

So back to the point,Thanks to Nuffnang, I received my daily dose of advertising. Yes, I had to decline the last run, which was Guinness Stout (which I have nothing against the Irish), of which I had to stand by Drive and Don’t Drink Campaign. I would love to run theirs even on PPC or eCPM basis because I have to promote my fellow comrades in Dublin,Eireann. That is just being Irish. Anyway, with 700 Visits an hour will surely put me on tier 50 on the Nuffnang Analytics. What is this Nuffnang Analytics? Every average visitor bring a point. Each Tier had it’s own ‘Quota’.

Tier One is the LOWEST. You get NOTHING! Some of you have even tried clicking on your ads,but get paid NOTHING right? That is because in the contract, you must have 10 visitors a day excluding yours. They planted a cookie inside it. So they know.

Then with traffic between 10-50, you get on Tier Two, which lands you BAND ONE ads! You will get about RM1.20 for your Static Ads. Get 50-100, you land on Tier Three, Band TWO, which is S$2.88 or RM3.58.

So what is this bullshit hype all about CPM,CPC and EPC? Well, Each advertising has a value. They agree with the Advertiser how much they willing to pay for each CLICK or per 100 views of their ad, commonly known as CPC (Cost per Centi). That will work out to Conversion Per Mille (CPM) which means how many clicks per thousand impressions. They also work out the EARNINGS PER CLICK by that method.

So, if you show your ads to 100 visitors, and out of that, one person click, means you convert 1% of your views. Your CPM will be 0.01% at most, by looking at how many from that 1% will go deeper, and click inside the advertisers’ site. A conversion means a sale or sign-up. Out of that, a click can get the affiliate or referrer a commission, which works out the EPC or Earnings Per Click.

Don’t care what, Nuffnang took a cut. They impose a normally 25% fee. Then there are are setup fees and other stuff. And so that comes to your Pay Check.

So what do you do to get that kind of advertising tier of $90 per advertising spot?? Well, drive more people in. Quality targeted traffic. You need a good spread of Singapore and a high load of Malaysian Traffic. Not just from Chinese but the Malays, Indians and visitors abroad like the US, UK, Europe and Australia. Your keywords must be absolutely great. Perfection is a must. And should you use CHINESE, get a standard English translation too as a vast majority who read are Romanised. The traffic will then come in also from Search Engines and Keywords. Look into your KEYWORD ANALYTICS of your blog.

Should I split my blog up? Yes, if the theme and focus differ from each other. One for your cat, one for your fish, one for your work, girlfriend, your concubine and scandals alike and what more can I say.Heck, write one about your Mother and Father and Grandparents too should you prefer. You need a GLOBAL traffic conversion whom will hop from one link to the next and that counts ALOT.

So, what is the total score?

Per Visitor, it will give you at least the following:
Adsense : 0.001 US CENT (based on 10c CPM)
Adbrite : 0.1 US CENT (Based on the CPC,CPM and FULL PAGE ADS)
Bidvertiser: 0.0001 US CENT (A long short)

Auction Ads: 0.01 US CENT
TextLinkAds: 0.01 US CENT (or $10 a mth)
ShoppingAds: 0.001US CENT

Advertlet : 0.01 SG cent
NUFFNANG: 0.15 MY SEN + 20 Sen per click.

So, if one day you draw in 1000 visits and 5000 clicks or page views (because people want to read the comment and replies) effectively you stand to earn about RM12 which pays for your hosting, domain name and even a Teh Tarik and Roti Canai at the local Mamak Store. Heck, it even pays for your motobike’s petrol to get to work.

Blog Roll People. Mention them, Trackback, and Visit them often. That will make you earn a decent earning. 20c is still 20 sen. As they say, it’s TABUNG AYAM, sikit sikit makin membukit. And if you feel your friends’ site is interesting, help them by clicking and visiting their sponsor. Don’t just click and close. Click deeper so it’s not fraudulent. Be HAPPY, because it’s 99sen for a 45mins call, thanks to Digi. No longer Orang Kuning but Gino’s Orang Oren!

As the lyrics in Aflin Shauki’s song Ah Long Bukit Beruntung… Kami Hanya Mahu Tolong. Tidak Perlu Borang J atau EA, Tidak perlu 6 bulan penyata gaji….oooooh Kami Ah Long Kasi Lu Untung!

Love it? Hate It.. Nag It.
Comments appreciated.

NCIS on my iPOD

Monday 17 December 2007 @ 7:49 pm

Well, it was THE day I tried out my iPOD video 80GB *(The Older Version 1.2.3 Model MA450FB) to load up with TV Shows. I downloaded NCIS Season 4 Episode 1 (can’t find the 2nd one) entitled SHALOM.

In essence, the 48 minutes play is downloaded into 505MB file, which by far, a quick thing to download using TM Net’s Streamyx 1MB system. It’s really fun compared to have nothing to watch. You can actually convert your videos into MP4 Format too, and surprisingly, it took me less than 40 minutes to download 500MB of file. Now I am downloading the WHOLE Season 5 of NCIS for $39.95 and getting the season pass of Prison Break.

Well, 80GB by far is equivalent of ONE SEASON (about 150 standard hourly episodes) but the runtime would be about 100 Hours of Good Video viewing time. With the additional RCA Cable, I can plug the thing into my TV for playback, but the cable itself cost about $100 or on eBay for about RM30.

One sacrifice I had to make was…my whole playlist was GONE. Absolutely GONE. No Recitations, No Quran, No Yasin or songs.I lost mine all on the old playlist, which was a sad thing to happen because of the lightning struck my router, which also killed my USB port and stuff.

And so, the verdict: clear crisp pictures on the small screen. I have not tested it on VGA port to the telly yet, so I will try it out later on. First, I wanna try out the Photo Importer USB connector.

iTalk Buddy?

Monday 17 December 2007 @ 7:21 am

What is this they talking about? Telekom Malaysia is up to their new tricks which they call, iTalk Buddy. Well, for me, it is something for me to check out because it’s cheaper to use iTalk on my Mobile because on Hotlink it’s 36sen a local minute = 40 mins on the $10 top-up. Compared to a Landline,it’s 10 sen a minute to anywhere in Malaysia. Well, even with their call back program, they give me more minutes than the local provider here, because it cost a bomb to call outside my zone, like $1.20 a minute to my office back in Johor. Even then, it’s cheaper to use them to call Singapore.

I saw that ..thanks to an ad on a buddy’s page ..which is running NUFFNANG Malaysia…so well, that’s your 20 sen for your time.

Experiment 626

Sunday 16 December 2007 @ 7:30 pm

Well, this is not LILO and Stitch movie, but LILO is sure making an entry.

I am fumbling about with the KNOPPIX with the BOOTSTRAP. It is known the PC tend to overheat and being an ancient AMD Duron 1100Mhz CPU with a defective 762MB of RAM and unstable Samsung Hard drive.

I am just doing a safebet on how long it will hang..and from the DIAGNOSTIC from LINUX, seems the VESA drivers are the culprit.

Let’s just see

Kaki Kambing

Sunday 16 December 2007 @ 1:09 pm

One thing I do miss badly is KAKI KAMBING. Something that you can easily get back in Singapore at Chong Pang Market, and you can even have MEE BANDUNG with that, and just look at the marrow ouzing out from the bone. That is something to die for. Costing about S$3 per piece ,it would be lucky of you to get one at all in Malaysia. They don’t eat lamb as much as the oversized Singaporeans. Well, We live as fit as possible, and the normal sin of eating high cholesterol meat and delicacies are something we can forgive.

Known also as SUP GEARBOX in Malaysia , it is bovine based, ie from the cow. A leg knuckle costs over RM15 and some great ones are in PASAR MALAM or night markets of the housing estates / township. Back to earth in Kulim, I have to wait for the Sahabat Group on the Wednesday,Thursday and Saturday markets to get em. Oooh well, I can always ask to get em Delivered if I am back in JB…as the delicacy is not from any shop but of the canteen in Taman Tan Sri Yakob in SKUDAI JOHOR BARU, aka ….my mom’s~

Now I am HUNGRY.
